Jigawa local govt chairman passes away

The Chairman of Gumel Local Government Area in Jigawa State, Hon. Lawan Ya’u, has passed away at the age of 61.
Ya’u died on the evening of Saturday, July 5, 2025, at a private hospital in Kano State after a brief illness. According to a family source, he was rushed to the hospital on Friday following a suspected heart attack but sadly passed away the following day while undergoing treatment.
Before venturing into politics, Ya’u was well-known in Jigawa for his active involvement in civil society initiatives, championing grassroots development and good governance.

He was elected chairman of Gumel LGA in August 2024 and was widely respected for his commitment to local development and transparency in public service.
Hon. Lawan Ya’u is survived by two wives and several children.
