Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, have learned their opponents for the first phase of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup African qualifiers.

Drawn into Group C, the Nigerian squad will go head-to-head with Rwanda, Guinea, and Tunisia as they aim to book a spot in the global showpiece set for Qatar.

Seeded in pot three ahead of the draw, Nigeria will need to finish among the top three in their group to advance to the second round of the qualifiers. From there, Africa’s five representatives for the 2027 World Cup will eventually emerge.

The full group breakdown is as follows:

Group A: Cameroon, South Sudan, Cape Verde, Libya
Group B: Senegal, DR Congo, Madagascar, Ivory Coast
Group C: Nigeria, Rwanda, Guinea, Tunisia
Group D: Mali, Angola, Uganda, Egypt

The qualifiers will be spread across five competitive windows, beginning in November 2025. Importantly, results from the first phase will carry over into the second round, adding greater weight to every game.

In the second round, the top two teams from each group — along with the best third-placed team overall — will secure Africa’s five tickets to the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
