Fubara returns to Port Harcourt amid ongoing political tensions

After a two-week trip abroad, suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has returned to Nigeria.
He arrived at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, around 7 p.m. on Friday, where he was received by a few aides before being driven away in a waiting SUV.
Governor Fubara’s return comes at a time of heightened political uncertainty in Rivers State. In March, President Bola Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy Prof. Ngozi Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly following the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.

The suspension stemmed from escalating tensions involving attacks on vital oil infrastructure by militant groups and a deepening rift between the governor and 27 lawmakers. The crisis has also drawn in the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, further complicating the political landscape.
