Presidency dismisses U.S court order on Tinubu documents as ‘old news’

The Nigerian Presidency has downplayed the impact of a recent U.S. court ruling that mandates the release of documents related to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by American law enforcement agencies.

A U.S. District Court had ordered the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to disclose certain files linked to President Tinubu. The directive sparked a flurry of reactions online, with many speculating about its potential implications.

However, the Presidency insists there’s nothing new or damaging in the documents. Responding to media inquiries, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, stated that the files in question are decades old and have already been widely discussed in the public domain.

“Journalists have sought the Presidency’s reaction to the ruling last Tuesday by a Washington DC judge ordering the US FBI and DEA to release reports connected with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Onanuga said.

“There is nothing new to be revealed. The report by Agent Moss of the FBI and the DEA report have been in the public space for more than 30 years. The reports did not indict the Nigerian leader. The lawyers are examining the ruling,” he added.
