Gunmen attack Benue community, kill one, abduct another in Otukpo

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have struck in the Asa 2 area of Otukpo town, Benue State, unleashing terror on residents and leaving the community in fear.
The attack, which took place around 7:00 p.m. on Monday, resulted in the tragic killing of a resident, Mr. Onche Akatu, who was shot at his residence. Eyewitnesses described the harrowing scene, as the assailants carried out their operation with ruthless precision.
In a separate but related incident, another individual, identified as Mr. Ocheche, was abducted while returning home. Reports suggest that he unknowingly encountered the kidnappers, who seized the opportunity to take him hostage.
Sources disclosed that the tragic event has left many residents fleeing the area in search of safety, as violent killings and kidnappings have become increasingly common in the community.

A source, who spoke under condition of anonymity said, “Mr Akatu Onche was gunned down by suspected kidnappers along Asa 2 area of Otukpo at about 7:00 pm on Friday. “Unfortunately, he (Akatu) couldn’t survive the gunshots but died early morning on Tuesday.
“The kidnappers went further and abducted a man near the scene and whisked him to an unknown destination.”
Efforts to contact the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, CSP, Catherine Anene, proved abortive as she did not return calls to her mobile telephone as of the time of this report.
