Police kill suspected kidnapper in Abuja Estate

A suspected kidnapper has been shot dead following a failed abduction attempt at the Army Post Service Housing Estate in Kurudu, Abuja Municipal Area Council.
The incident occurred around 8:47pm on Thursday when a seven-man armed gang reportedly stormed the estate, firing sporadically in an attempt to gain access to the residential area.
Residents were thrown into panic as gunshots rang out, but the attack was repelled, leading to the neutralisation of one of the suspects. The remaining members of the gang reportedly fled the scene.
Sources said the gunfire immediately triggered a swift response from military personnel stationed at the estate gate, who engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle.
A resident, Michael Moses, who lives close to the estate, told our correspondent that both military personnel and operatives of the Kurudu Police Division responded promptly, leading to a prolonged exchange of fire.

He said one of the suspected kidnappers was shot dead during the confrontation, while the security operatives successfully foiled the gang’s attempt to abduct a prominent businessman residing within the estate.
According to him, the remains of the suspect were later evacuated by the police after the operation.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, SP Adeh Josephine, confirmed the incident, adding that investigations had commenced to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
She noted that further details would be communicated as inquiries progress, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing members of the gang.
