The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has initiated an investigation into reports that a recent airstrike in Jilli may have resulted in civilian casualties.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Air Force acknowledged allegations that its operation carried out on Saturday, April 11, 2026, might have impacted a local market in the area, raising concerns about possible loss of innocent lives.

Reacting swiftly to the reports, the Chief of the Air Staff ordered the immediate deployment of the Civilian Harm Accident and Investigation Cell (CHAI-Cell) to the affected location. The team has been tasked with conducting a thorough fact-finding mission to determine what truly transpired during the operation.

The NAF emphasized that it takes any report involving potential civilian harm with utmost seriousness, noting that the protection of non-combatants remains a key priority in all its missions.

Authorities also assured the public of transparency and accountability throughout the investigation process. The Air Force stated that it would collaborate with relevant agencies and community representatives to uncover the facts and ensure that any verified concerns are properly addressed.

While the probe is ongoing, the NAF has appealed to the public and media to avoid speculation and allow the investigation to proceed without interference.

The statement was signed by Ehimen Ejodame, Air Commodore and Director of Public Relations and Information at the NAF Headquarters.

This development comes amid heightened concerns over civilian safety in conflict-affected areas, with many awaiting the outcome of the investigation for clarity on the incident.
