Ex-minister Jumoke Akinjide dumps PDP after years of service

A former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Jumoke Akinjide, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), bringing an end to her long-standing membership of more than two decades.
Her resignation was communicated in a letter dated Monday and addressed to the Ward 1 Chairman of the PDP in Ona-Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State.
In the letter, Akinjide explained that her decision came after “a long period of personal reflection,” signaling a thoughtful and deliberate move away from the party she had been affiliated with for years.
“This decision was not taken lightly, given the fact that I have been a member of the party since 2001,” she wrote, adding that her resignation takes immediate effect.
She expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunities it provided, noting that she valued the experiences and relationships built during her time as a member. She also wished the party success in its future endeavours.

A close associate, Kehinde Olaosebikan, confirmed the development, describing it as a personal decision by the former minister.
Akinjide served as Minister of State for the FCT between 2011 and 2015 under former President Goodluck Jonathan. She also briefly held the position of Supervising Minister for Police Affairs in 2014.
Prior to her ministerial roles, she served as Special Assistant to the President on FCT Matters and later on G77 Affairs and Nigerians in the Diaspora between 2001 and 2003.
