Court stops Turaki-led PDP faction from entering national secretariat

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has restrained a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Kabiru Turaki from entering or operating from the party’s national secretariat.

The ruling was delivered on Monday by Joyce Abdulmalik following a suit filed by party members aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

In her judgment, the court ordered security agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS), to ensure protection for the Wike-backed faction, enabling them to access and conduct activities at the PDP national headquarters.

Justice Abdulmalik held that the PDP national convention held in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, 2025—which produced the Turaki-led leadership—was conducted in violation of existing court orders.

The court ruled that the convention was invalid and of no legal effect, citing non-compliance with Section 287(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), as well as a breach of the PDP’s internal regulations.
