MC Oluomo: The rise of Lagos’ influential transport leader

Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, is a prominent figure in Lagos’ transport sector and a key leader within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), where he has headed the Lagos State branch.
He is widely known for his strong influence in the motor park system across Lagos, rising from grassroots operations to become one of the most recognized figures among transport workers.
Background
Born on March 14, 1975, in Oshodi, Lagos State, MC Oluomo grew up in a modest and challenging environment, and his life took a difficult turn after the death of his father.
This loss forced him to drop out of school at an early stage, limiting his formal education to the primary level.
As a young boy trying to survive, he left home around the age of 13 and began hustling for daily income. These early struggles played a major role in shaping his resilience and street influence.
Journey into the transport sector
MC Oluomo started his working life as a bus driver in Lagos, navigating the busy and competitive transport system. Over time, he built connections and gained recognition within the motor park environment.
His influence steadily grew as he became deeply involved in union activities.
Through persistence and grassroots mobilization, he rose through the ranks to become the head of a major motor park in Oshodi, one of Lagos’ busiest transport hubs. This position marked the beginning of his dominance in the local transport structure.
Rise within NURTW
His growing influence eventually earned him a leadership role in the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), particularly in Lagos State.
MC Oluomo became known as a powerful figure among transport workers, often described as one of the most influential “agbero” leaders in the state.
In November 2024, he reached a major milestone when he was elected National President of the NURTW.
His emergence at the national level further strengthened his position as a key player in Nigeria’s transport union system.

Politics
MC Oluomo’s influence extends beyond the transport sector into politics, especially through his association with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In 2019, he was involved in a violent incident during a political campaign event in Lagos, where he was stabbed.
The attack was widely believed to be connected to internal political tensions linked to then-governor Akinwumi Ambode, whose re-election ambition had faced opposition within the party.
The incident drew national attention and highlighted the often tense relationship between politics and grassroots power structures in Lagos.
Controversies
Over the years, MC Oluomo has remained a controversial figure.
During the 2023 general elections in Lagos, he faced allegations in widely circulated social media videos claiming he intimidated voters and attempted to influence the electoral process.
Some reports accused him of targeting certain ethnic groups and disrupting voting activities.
These claims sparked public outrage and debate, although they remain disputed and part of ongoing discussions about electoral conduct in Nigeria.
Personal life
Away from public life, MC Oluomo is known to have a large family.
He has multiple wives and several children, reflecting a private life that contrasts with his very public and often contentious career.
