Man United edge Aston Villa to keep Champions League dream alive

Manchester United strengthened their push for a top-four finish with an impressive 3–1 victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday.
After a goalless first half, United broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute when Casemiro rose highest to head home a well-delivered corner from Bruno Fernandes.
Villa responded in the 64th minute as Ross Barkley found the equaliser, marking a memorable moment in his first Premier League start in 14 months.
However, United regained control in the closing stages of the match. Matheus Cunha restored the home side’s lead in the 71st minute, before Benjamin Sesko sealed the victory with a goal in the 81st minute.

The win marked Michael Carrick’s seventh in nine games as interim manager, lifting United to third place, three points ahead of Villa in the race for a top-four finish. Carrick’s strong start is bolstering his case for a permanent managerial role, with co-owner Jim Ratcliffe praising his work but not committing to a long-term appointment.
Bruno Fernandes set a new United club record for Premier League assists in a season, registering his 16th to surpass David Beckham’s 1999-2000 mark. Sesko’s goal came after he had been dropped, highlighting depth and competition in Carrick’s squad.
Elsewhere in the Premier League, Nottingham Forest climbed out of the relegation zone after a goalless draw with Fulham, while ten-man Leeds held Crystal Palace to a 0-0 draw despite Dominic Calvert-Lewin missing a penalty. Tottenham face Liverpool later, still teetering near the relegation zone under interim boss Igor Tudor after a five-match losing streak and recent Champions League exit.
