Breaking…Rivers Assembly halts move to impeach Fubara, deputy

In a dramatic turn of events, the Rivers State House of Assembly has paused impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu. The move comes after intervention from President Bola Tinubu, signaling a high-level effort to stabilize the state’s political scene.
The Assembly officially moved to halt the impeachment process on Thursday during its resumed sitting in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Recall that during its first sitting in 2026, the House had commenced impeachment proceedings against Fubara and his deputy over alleged gross misconduct, including the demolition of the state assembly complex and spending without legislative approval, among other charges.
