Immigration officer reportedly killed by wife over cheating allegations

A tragic incident has led to the death of an immigration officer serving at the Abia State Command.
The officer, identified as Chidiebere James, popularly known as “Agali,” reportedly lost his life after a violent altercation with his wife. The incident happened in Umuizi, Umuogba Ohuhu, in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.
According to a family source and an eyewitness who spoke from the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia, Chidiebere was stabbed in the early hours of Monday, 16th February 2026. He was later confirmed dead at the hospital.
The crisis reportedly began a day earlier after the couple engaged in a heated argument over their sick child and the officer’s alleged inability to provide money for medical treatment. The disagreement was said to have been further complicated by accusations of infidelity after the wife allegedly discovered incriminating messages on the deceased’s mobile phone.
Family members, including the deceased’s sister, were said to have intervened and temporarily restored calm. However, tensions reportedly resurfaced early the following morning, leading to another confrontation inside the family residence.

During the renewed quarrel, the situation allegedly escalated into a physical struggle. In the course of the altercation, the deceased’s phone was reportedly damaged, prompting him to seize and destroy his wife’s phone in retaliation. The confrontation allegedly turned fatal when the woman allegedly picked up a pair of scissors and stabbed him.
He was said to have collapsed shortly after the incident and was later confirmed dead at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.
The shocking development has thrown the Umuizi community into mourning, with residents expressing deep concern over rising incidents of domestic violence and the devastating consequences of unresolved family disputes.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies have yet to release an official statement on the incident, while investigations are expected to determine the full circumstances surrounding the officer’s death.
