Nigerian Army uncovers underground Boko Haram logistics base in Borno

Nigerian troops operating under Operation Hadin Kai have uncovered an underground Boko Haram logistics base in Borno State, dealing another blow to the insurgent group’s supply network.
The discovery was made on Sunday after soldiers conducted intelligence-led operations against terrorist hideouts in the Timbuktu Triangle area. The areas covered during the operation included Chilaria, Garin Faruk and Abirma communities.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Uba Sani, confirmed the development in a statement released on Monday.
According to him, the operation was part of Operation Desert Sanity and led to the destruction of several terrorist camps linked to Boko Haram and ISWAP.
“Troops of the Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation HADIN KAI, have recorded further operational successes in the ongoing Operation DESERT SANITY, destroying multiple terrorist camps, recovering arms and equipment, and repelling coordinated attacks by the insurgents in the Timbuktu Triangle,” the statement said.
He explained that the soldiers moved out from their locations on January 18, 2026, and launched carefully planned attacks on known terrorist enclaves.
Sani said the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai supported the ground troops by providing constant surveillance and intelligence during the operation.
“The air-ground synergy enabled real-time tracking of terrorist movements, deterred adversary reinforcement, and enhanced the precision and confidence of ground operations,” he said.
During the operation, troops recovered several weapons and items, including communication gadgets, ammunition and military equipment.
According to him, the items recovered included “Baofeng radios, phones, five AK-47 magazines, several rounds of 7.62 × 39mm special ammunition and 7.62mm NATO belted ammunition.”

Other items found were “several Boko Haram/ISWAP flags, links of 12.7 × 108 mm ammunition, diesel powered grinding machines, large quantity of medical supplies, several bags of grains, pick-up truck, underground logistics storage and petroleum and oil lubricant dump.”
Sani noted that the recoveries weakened the terrorists’ ability to operate and move supplies.
He also revealed that the troops came under drone attacks during the mission.
“At about midday, the advancing troops came under armed drone attacks launched by the terrorists,” he said.
He added, “Despite this, the troops maintained momentum and continued the offensives. A second drone attack attempted in the evening was also decisively repelled, forcing the terrorists to withdraw and reaffirming the troops’ dominance of the area.”
Sani said troop morale remains high, adding that the area is currently calm but unpredictable.
“The general security situation in the area is assessed as calm but unpredictable, with troops remaining vigilant and at a high state of readiness,” he stated.
He said that the military leadership remains committed to continuing the operation to eliminate terrorists, protect civilians and restore peace in the North-East.
