Sudan army nears control of presidential palace from RSF

The Sudanese army is reportedly close to seizing control of the Presidential Palace from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) after intense fighting in the heart of Khartoum.

Military sources indicate that government troops have advanced on key RSF positions, forcing the paramilitary group to retreat from parts of the heavily contested area.

Heavy gunfire and airstrikes were reported around the palace as both sides vied for control of the symbolic and strategic stronghold. The Sudanese army, backed by air power, has been engaged in a prolonged battle with the RSF since the conflict erupted last year, plunging the country into chaos.

While official statements remain scarce, eyewitnesses say army forces are tightening their grip on central Khartoum, marking a potential turning point in the power struggle. However, the RSF has not conceded defeat, and the situation remains highly volatile.

The ongoing conflict has displaced millions and left Sudan’s capital in ruins, with humanitarian organizations warning of worsening conditions for civilians trapped in the crossfire. International calls for a ceasefire have so far failed to bring an end to the bloodshed.

Further developments are expected as the battle for Khartoum continues.
