A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the interim forfeiture of 57 properties suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities allegedly linked to Abubakar Malami, former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice.

The order was granted on Tuesday by Justice Emeka Nwite following an ex parte application filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The application was moved by the commission’s counsel, Ekele Iheanacho.

In his ruling, Justice Nwite held that the properties, said to be worth several billions of naira, were reasonably suspected to have been acquired through proceeds of unlawful activities. He consequently ordered that the assets be temporarily forfeited to the federal government pending further investigations and legal proceedings.
