EFCC arrests ex-minister, Chris Ngige

Former Anambra State Governor and ex-Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), his former media aide, Fred Chukwuelobe, confirmed on Tuesday.
The clarification follows a wave of online rumours claiming that the former minister had been abducted by unknown gunmen—claims that quickly circulated across social media and triggered public concern.
Chukwuelobe dismissed the kidnap reports as entirely false, stressing that Ngige was neither missing nor abducted. According to him, the former minister is safe and has been with EFCC operatives, contrary to the misleading narratives circulating online.
“Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details later,” he said in a short statement.
The rumour mill had gone into overdrive earlier in the day, with several unverified social media posts alleging that Ngige had been whisked away by armed men.

His recent security scare in Anambra State further fueled public fears.
Ngige had been in the news following an attack on his convoy in the state, a violent incident that occurred while he was not in the vehicle, but one that nevertheless raised concerns about his safety and political exposure.
As at press time, neither the EFCC nor associates close to the former minister have disclosed the grounds for his arrest or the specific issues under investigation.
His detention, however, has triggered fresh speculation, especially given his prominent roles in the Buhari administration and his lingering influence in southeastern politics.
