Gen. Musa assumes office as Nigeria’s Defence Minister

Retired General Christopher Musa, the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, officially assumed office as Nigeria’s Minister of Defence on Friday at the Ministry of Defence, Ship House, Abuja.
Musa’s appointment was made by President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, following the resignation of his predecessor, Muhammed Badaru. His nomination received confirmation from the Senate on Thursday, paving the way for him to take up his new role overseeing the nation’s defence affairs.
His appointment, widely welcomed across different sectors, is expected to strengthen defence operations, with many citing his record of firm and innovative leadership as defence chief between 2023 and 2025.

The new minister arrived at the ministry at about 11:10 am, inspected the quarter guard in line with military tradition, and exchanged pleasantries with service chiefs and senior officials on arrival.
He is currently in a closed-door meeting with the service chiefs and directors of the ministry.
