Pregnant teenager commits suic!de in Gombe

A 16-year-old girl, Maryam Samuel, has been found dead in what appears to be a case of suicide in Kaltungo, a community in Kaltungo Local Government Area of Gombe State.
Confirming the incident on Saturday, the spokesman for the Gombe State Police Command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, stated that the teenager was discovered hanging from a tree. The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear, and authorities are expected to conduct further investigations.
“On Friday, at about 9:00 a.m, a case of suicide was reported at Kaltungo Divisional Headquarters by the village head of Kalarin.
“The deceased, later identified as Maryam Samuel, 16 years old from Kalarin ward, was seen hanged with a rope on a tree at Kalarin mountain without any marks of violence found on her body,” he said.
According to Abdullahi, the girl’s body has been taken to the General Hospital Kaltungo.

Preliminary investigations suggest she had left home on Thursday to gather firewood. However, further inquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
A family source, who requested anonymity, alleged that the deceased was pregnant, reportedly by her boyfriend, which had led to tensions with her parents.
The source claimed the pregnancy was discovered after discussions between the family and the suspected boyfriend.
Authorities say investigations will continue to uncover more details about the case.
