Alcaraz defeats Fritz to win Japan Open, claims eighth title of the season

World number one, Carlos Alcaraz, continued his remarkable run of form on Tuesday after defeating Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4 in the Japan Open final, securing his eighth title of the season and reaffirming his dominance in men’s tennis.
The victory was especially sweet for the Spaniard, as it came just weeks after suffering a surprise defeat to Fritz at the Laver Cup in San Francisco — his first loss to the American in four meetings. This time, Alcaraz showed no signs of hesitation, delivering a composed performance against the 2022 Tokyo champion to clinch another trophy.
Tuesday’s triumph marked Alcaraz’s ninth consecutive final and his 24th career tour-level title, further cementing his position as the player to beat on the ATP Tour.

The 22-year-old briefly raised concerns last week after jarring his foot during his Tokyo debut, but he bounced back impressively, closing out the tournament with his 67th match win of the year.
For Alcaraz, the Japan Open title adds yet another highlight to what has already been a stellar 2025 season, showcasing the hunger, resilience, and consistency that have defined his rise to the top of the sport.
