World Cup: Ronaldo shines in Portugal’s five-star win over Uzbekistan

Cristiano Ronaldo etched his name even deeper into football history on Tuesday, becoming the first player ever to score in six FIFA World Cups as Portugal cruised to a commanding 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan in Houston.
The Portuguese captain delivered another memorable performance on the global stage, scoring twice in the first half to help his side secure their first win of the tournament and take a significant step toward qualification for the knockout rounds.
At 41 years old, Ronaldo continues to defy age and expectations. The football icon opened the scoring before adding a second goal later in the first half, setting a new World Cup record by becoming the first male player to find the net in six different editions of the tournament.
His historic achievement further cements his legacy as one of the greatest players ever to grace the game, with fans around the world celebrating yet another milestone in his extraordinary career.
Portugal wasted little time asserting their dominance against Uzbekistan. Alongside Ronaldo’s brace, defender Nuno Mendes got on the scoresheet with a well-taken free-kick that left the opposition goalkeeper with no chance.

The Central Asian side’s troubles worsened when Abduvohid Nematov inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, handing Portugal a fourth goal before halftime.
Despite already holding a comfortable lead, Portugal continued to push forward in the second half. Substitute Rafael Leão rounded off the emphatic victory with a late strike, ensuring a five-star performance from Roberto Martínez’s men.
The comprehensive win gives Portugal their first three points in Group K and significantly boosts their chances of reaching the knockout stages.
With confidence restored and their star man continuing to deliver on football’s biggest stage, Portugal now find themselves firmly in control of their qualification hopes. The performance also sends a strong message to potential rivals that they remain one of the teams to watch in the tournament.
