Reps summon Ribadu, Service Chiefs over worsening insecurity across Nigeria

The House of Representatives has summoned the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, alongside the nation’s service chiefs to appear before lawmakers and explain the growing security challenges confronting the country.

The decision was reached during Tuesday’s plenary session after members adopted a motion sponsored by Sulaiman Gumi, who represents the Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency of Zamfara State.

Lawmakers expressed concern over the persistent wave of banditry, kidnappings, terrorist attacks, and other violent crimes affecting several parts of the country, particularly communities in the North-West and North-East regions.

The House resolved to invite the security chiefs and the NSA to provide detailed briefings on the current security situation, ongoing operations, and measures being taken to address the growing threats to lives and property.

Members noted that the worsening insecurity has continued to disrupt economic activities, displace communities, and heighten fears among citizens despite increased government spending on security.

The lawmakers are expected to engage the security leadership on strategies to improve intelligence gathering, strengthen military operations, and enhance the protection of vulnerable communities across the federation.

The summons comes amid renewed concerns over a series of deadly attacks, kidnappings, and bandit activities reported in several states, including Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, Borno, and parts of the North-Central region.
