Meet Segun Aina, newly appointed JAMB registrar

Segun Aina is the newly appointed Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu.
The appointment places the 39-year-old professor at the helm of one of Nigeria’s most important examination bodies, succeeding Is-haq Oloyede whose tenure officially ends on July 31, 2026.
Aina’s emergence has attracted attention across the country, not only because he will become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history when he turns 40 in July, but also because of his strong background in engineering, digital systems, academic research, and examination reforms.
1. Born into the academic and technology space, Aina built his educational foundation entirely in the United Kingdom.
2. He obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from University of Kent in 2008 before proceeding to Loughborough University, where he earned a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security in 2009.
He later completed a PhD in Digital Signal Processing at the same university, further establishing himself in advanced computing and systems research. Back in Nigeria, he also attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
3. Before becoming a professor, Aina had early exposure to JAMB during his National Youth Service Corps programme.
According to the Presidency, his time with the examination body gave him practical experience in admissions processing, institutional data management, and examination systems, areas that later shaped his professional career.

4. Over the years, Aina built a reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading young scholars in Computer Engineering.
At the age of 39, he was appointed Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, making him one of the youngest professors in the field in Nigeria.
5. Beyond academics, he has worked extensively with government agencies and educational institutions on digital transformation and operational reforms.
His consultancy roles have included advisory work for the Job Creation Unit in the Office of the Vice President as well as collaborations with several state governments.
6. Aina also has deep experience within Nigeria’s examination sector. He has served as a consultant to the National Examinations Council and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, where he focused on ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process optimisation.
7. In 2010, he co-founded Fluid Click Solutions Ltd, a technology and engineering project management company with interests in education technology, agriculture, hospitality, vocational training, and capacity development.
8. The new JAMB registrar is also a member of several professional engineering bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
He has authored nearly 30 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers, with research interests centred on engineering systems, digital infrastructure, and technology-driven institutional reforms.
