Anambra ADC chairman resigns after Peter Obi’s exit

Chris Nwosu, the newly elected Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra State, has resigned barely one month after his election, citing the exit of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi as a key factor in his decision.

Nwosu was elected during the party’s state congress held at the Kyrie Events Centre in Awka, Anambra State, on April 11, 2026, in what was seen as a promising start for the ADC in the region.

In his resignation letter, he said his decision was influenced by Obi’s departure and his “burning desire to support his genuine aspirations to effectively contribute his quota to the birthing of a New and Working Nigeria.”

The letter, dated May 2 and addressed to the Chairman of ADC, Ozubulu Ward V, Ekwusigo LGA, was obtained in Awka on Wednesday.

It read in part: “I write to formally resign my membership of the African Democratic Congress, effective immediately.”

“For the avoidance of doubt, my resignation is informed by the unavoidable exit of HE, Mr Peter Obi, CON from the party, as well as my burning desire to support his genuine aspiration…”

Nwosu thanked the party for the opportunity to serve briefly, noting his emergence as state chairman before his resignation.

The ADC had earlier held its Anambra State congress at the Kyrie Events Centre, Awka, where new executives were elected through consensus and sworn in immediately.
