Troops nab 2 suspects, recover AK-47 rifles in Delta

Troops from the 63 Brigade/Sector 1 of the Joint Task Force, South-South, operating under Operation Delta Safe, recently conducted a security operation in Ogidigben Community, located in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.

The operation resulted in the confiscation of four AK-47 rifles from suspected criminals, a significant step in the ongoing efforts to curb illegal arms circulation in the region.

The significant operational successes were contained in a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Asaba, Captain Iliyasu Bawa-Rijau. Copies were made available to journalists in Warri on Tuesday.

According to the statement, “the operation was conducted following reports of sporadic shooting in the community”.

“Acting on credible intelligence, the troops responded swiftly and confiscated four AK-47 rifles, six magazines, 106 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two knives, ten machetes, and four rain boots.

The Army spokesman disclosed that the suspects are currently in custody, undergoing further investigation.

The Commander, 63 Brigade, Brigadier General Moronfolu Abdulmoshood Shonibare, while appreciating the troops for their resilience, charged them to sustain the operational tempo.

He reassured of the Brigade’s unwavering commitment to denying criminal elements freedom of action.

He also warned that “any individuals or groups harbouring arms or engaging in criminal activities should have a rethink”, as efforts would be intensified to track them down.
