Residents of the Ajah area in Lagos State have been left in shock following the tragic death of a 65-year-old man, Chief Augustine Nwalieze, who was allegedly killed by his gateman under unclear circumstances.

The late Nwalieze, said to be a manager with Okeyson Transport, was reportedly attacked inside his residence on Sunday morning. According to sources, the incident occurred shortly after he had prepared to attend church, turning what should have been a peaceful morning into a scene of tragedy.

A family member, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, described the incident as devastating, noting that the sudden loss has thrown the entire family into deep grief and disbelief.

According to the source, Nwalieze had gone downstairs to the car park area of his home, where spare parts from his vehicles and a solar panel were kept, when the attack occurred.

Concern arose after family members noticed that none of his vehicles had been moved and repeated calls to his phone went unanswered.

Suspicion later fell on the gateman after he reportedly gave conflicting accounts about the victim’s whereabouts.

“He mentioned that my father-in-law had gone out with a friend, but when that friend was contacted, he said he hadn’t seen him,” the source said.

The gateman was said to have fled shortly after, prompting a search of the premises.

The victim’s lifeless body was eventually discovered in one of the flats within the compound, bearing multiple machete wounds to the head and body.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.

At the time of the incident, other members of the household, including his wife, daughter, and domestic staff, were reportedly upstairs and unaware of what had transpired.

The case has been reported to the Lagos State Police Command, which has commenced an investigation and launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect.

As of the time of filing this report, police authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
