ADC blasts EFCC for arresting El-Rufai, Malami to weaken rival parties ahead of 2027

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised fresh concerns over what it describes as a targeted crackdown on opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the ADC, recent actions involving former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, are not merely anti-corruption measures but politically driven moves designed to slow the party’s rising influence.
Hajiya Hassana Shuaibu Dada, Assistant National Youth Leader (North Central) of the African Democratic Congress, made the allegation in a statement issued on Wednesday.
She described the investigations and arrests as selective and targeted, accusing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of acting in favour of the ruling party.
“The selective prosecutions of our leaders, Hon. Abubakar Malami and Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, through the EFCC are clearly politically motivated efforts to weaken the ADC because we represent a real alternative to the ruling party,” Dada stated.
According to her, the actions against Abubakar Malami and Nasir El-Rufai were part of a broader strategy to intimidate opposition figures ahead of the next election cycle.

She said the ADC would not be distracted by what she called pressure tactics and warned that such moves could damage public trust in anti-corruption institutions.
“These efforts will not intimidate us; instead, they will only strengthen our unity and resolve,” she added.
Dada stressed that the ADC remains committed to justice, fairness, and national development. She urged Nigerians to remain alert and to support political alternatives that promote accountability and good governance.
Moreover, the ADC youth leader also appealed to party supporters across the country to stay focused and avoid being discouraged by what she described as politically driven actions.
