Shehu Dikko: Nigeria’s visionary leader in sports administration

Shehu Dikko, a seasoned sports administrator from Kaduna State, Nigeria, has been at the forefront of football and sports management in the country for nearly two decades.
Currently serving as the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), a position he assumed in October 2024 under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, Dikko is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential figures in sports governance.

In 2008, Dikko was appointed as a consultant for the Sports Committee of the Nigerian House of Representatives.
During his tenure, he played a key role in drafting the National Sports Commission bill, which was eventually passed, providing a structured framework for sports governance in Nigeria.
Between 2012 and 2013, he served as Secretary of the Super Eagles Bonus Row and Code of Conduct Drafting Committee, reinforcing his reputation as a meticulous administrator.

Leadership of the League Management Company
Dikko’s most prominent role has been as Chairman of the League Management Company (LMC), first appointed in December 2014 and reappointed in April 2019.
Under his leadership, the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) has seen significant improvements in organization, marketing, and professionalism.
Dikko has consistently advocated for treating sports as a business, emphasizing commercialization and investment to ensure the league’s sustainability and growth.
