In line with her passion for giving back, she established the Tonto Dikeh Foundation on August 27, 2000.

Birth

Tonto Charity Dikeh was born on June 9, 1985, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. She comes from a family of seven and is the third of five children.

She is of Ikwerre descent and hails from Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Tragedy struck early in her life when she lost her mother at the age of three. She was subsequently raised by her stepmother, an experience she has often described as formative in building her resilience and strong personality.

Dikeh studied petrochemical engineering at Rivers State University, formerly Rivers State University of Science and Technology.

Acting Career

Tonto Dikeh began her Nollywood career in 2006 and quickly rose to prominence due to her versatility and bold approach to roles.

She featured in several movies in her early years, including Tea or Coffee, Pounds and Dollars, Missing Rib and Games Fools Play.

Her role in Missing Rib brought her widespread recognition and established her as a leading actress.

Over the years, she appeared in dozens of films such as Zara, Blackberry Babes, Criminal Widow, Battle of the Queens and 15 Years of Slavery.

One of her most controversial movies, Dirty Secret, sparked intense public debate because of its adult scenes.

While critics described it as un-African, supporters argued that she was simply portraying her character professionally.

Following her success in Nollywood, Dikeh ventured into music. She released her debut singles “Hi” and “Itz Ova,” with the latter featuring Snypa.

She announced her exit from DB Records in March 2015 and later continued under her own label, Poko Entertainment, before stepping away from music around 2017.

Philanthropy

On August 27, 2000, Tonto Dikeh founded the Tonto Dikeh Foundation, driven by a desire to support underprivileged and displaced women, children and youths across Africa.

The foundation focuses on advocacy and sensitization programmes addressing issues such as gender equality, rape, child rights, empowerment and climate change, while promoting unity across political, religious and cultural lines.

Political Career

In June 2022, Dikeh officially entered politics when she was announced as the deputy governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress for the 2023 Rivers State governorship election.

Her declaration drew public attention and support, particularly in Port Harcourt, marking a new chapter in her public life.

Personal Life

Tonto Dikeh was traditionally married to businessman Olakunle Oladunni Churchill in August 2015.

The union produced a son in February 2016, whom she named King Andre and fondly refers to as Baby X. The marriage ended in divorce in 2017 after a highly publicised fallout.

She has remained a subject of public discussion due to her outspoken nature and social media presence, as well as controversies linked to her relationships. Despite this, she continues to maintain a strong and loyal fan base.
