PDP postpones NEC meeting after emergency NWC session

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the postponement of its highly anticipated 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which was earlier scheduled to take place on Wednesday.
In a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the decision was taken during an emergency meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) held on Monday.
Ologunagba explained that the postponement was made in accordance with Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), which empowers the NWC to adjust schedules in response to developments affecting the party’s operations.
While the party did not give specific details about the “recent developments” that led to the postponement, it assured members and stakeholders that a new date for the NEC meeting will be announced soon.
The sudden postponement came amid defections of members to the ruling All Progressives Congress, raising concerns about the opposition party’s strength to contest elections in 2027.

Meanwhile, Governor Seyi Makinde urged members not to lose hope in the party despite recent defections, noting its current challenges are only temporary.
The governor, who made this statement during the inauguration of the PDP National Convention Transportation Subcommittee in Abuja, said the party’s current situation would better prepare it for future electoral victories.
“The news out there is that governors are defecting. I have good news. It may appear that it’s getting worse. But usually, when you want something that will endure, it will usually get worse before it gets better. So don’t even think otherwise.
“From when the 34 wise men came together to put democracy on the map for this country, at the beginning of this republic in 1999, PDP has always been a constant factor, either as a ruling party or the main opposition party since 2015,” Mr Makinde said on Monday.
