Search underway for missing fisherman off Sligo coast

A major search operation is continuing off the coast of County Sligo after a fisherman was reported missing when his vessel ran aground near Mullaghmore Head.
Emergency services were alerted around 8pm on Thursday after a member of the public spotted the fishing boat stranded close to the shoreline.
The Irish Coast Guard confirmed that a large-scale, multi-agency operation was launched immediately, with efforts continuing through the night.
On Friday morning, the search resumed, focusing on waters stretching from Mullaghmore into Donegal Bay.

Helicopter units from Sligo and Dublin, local lifeboat crews, and shore-based Coast Guard teams have all been deployed. Coordination is being led by the Coast Guard’s control centre at Malin Head.
“This is an extensive and ongoing search involving multiple agencies,” a Coast Guard spokesman said.
As of Friday afternoon, no trace of the missing fisherman had been found. Authorities said the operation would remain active as conditions allow.
Mullaghmore, a popular fishing and surfing destination, has witnessed previous sea tragedies, and locals have expressed concern for the fisherman and his family as the search continues.
