Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled an attack by fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Wulgo, Borno State, killing at least seven insurgents, including two of their senior commanders.

Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama confirmed the development on Thursday, noting that the fierce gun battle also left several other terrorists critically injured.

Among those neutralized were two key ISWAP commanders identified as Abu Nazir, the Munzir of Juye, and Abu Fatima, the Munzir of Koloram.

In the aftermath of the clash, soldiers recovered four motorcycles from the attackers. However, a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle belonging to the military was torched by the retreating fighters.

“The terrorists came heavily armed but were decisively engaged. We inflicted heavy casualties on them, including two of their senior commanders,” a source told Makama.
