Spain wildfire: Firefighters contain Madrid blaze, 1 injured

Firefighters have contained a wildfire in the Tres Cantos area, north of the Spanish capital, that injured one person and forced the evacuation of 180 residents, regional authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
The blaze, which broke out on Monday, scorched more than 1,000 hectares before being brought under control. Officials said favourable overnight weather conditions — including cooler temperatures and calmer winds — helped crews halt the fire’s advance.
Emergency services reported that one man sustained life-threatening injuries, suffering burns to 98% of his body. He was airlifted to Madrid’s La Paz hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Evacuees were housed temporarily in nearby facilities while firefighters worked through the night to secure containment lines.
By Tuesday morning, authorities said there was no longer any immediate threat to homes, though crews continue to monitor the area for flare-ups.
The Community of Madrid thanked the hundreds of emergency personnel involved in the operation and urged the public to remain cautious, warning that high summer temperatures and dry conditions continue to pose a significant wildfire risk across the region.
