Bandits invade Babanla Town, kill police officer, loot Market

Babanla, a community in Kwara State, was thrown into turmoil on Friday as about 200 armed bandits stormed the town on motorbikes, killing a police officer and plundering its busy local market.
Security analyst Zagozola Makama confirmed on Saturday that the attackers, shooting indiscriminately, launched a coordinated assault on the Babanla Police Station. In the attack, ASP Adejumo Wasiu, an officer attached to ACPOL Offa, was fatally shot, and his AK-47 rifle taken by the gunmen.
“After the assault on the police facility, the gunmen moved to the town’s market, seizing large quantities of foodstuffs,” the report stated.

A swift response from a joint force of the military, police, vigilantes, and local hunters repelled the attackers and restored calm.
The number of civilian casualties had not been confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
