A heartbreaking incident unfolded on Thursday afternoon in Pulka, a community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, as a grenade explosion claimed the lives of three young children.

The victims Fati Dahiru, Aisha Ibrahim, and Fati Yakubu were reportedly playing near their homes when they stumbled upon an explosive device, believed to have been left behind by Boko Haram insurgents. According to Buba Yaga, a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), the grenade detonated around 2:20 p.m., killing the children instantly.

Security analyst Zagozola Makama reported that personnel from the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit (EOD-CBRN), troops of Operation Hadin Kai, CJTF members, and local hunters responded swiftly to the scene. They secured the area and carried out a thorough search for additional explosives but found none. The location was later declared safe.

The injured children were taken to the General Hospital in Gwoza, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths. Their remains were handed over to their families for burial in accordance with Islamic customs.

Security authorities have appealed to the public to report any unidentified or suspicious objects to the appropriate agencies to help prevent future incidents of this nature.
