A somber mood has enveloped Gwabro village in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, following a tragic explosion on Sunday that claimed the lives of at least six people.

The blast, which is suspected to have been triggered by an improvised explosive device (IED), tore through a section of the rural community, leaving devastation and grief in its wake.

Confirming the incident, Ahmad Rufai, spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, revealed the casualty figure but refrained from providing details on those responsible for the attack, citing an ongoing investigation into the matter.

Local residents, stunned by the sudden violence, are still coming to terms with the horror of the blast. Garzali Raka, Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Chairman of Tangaza LGA, confirmed that all six victims have been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

Local sources alleged that the explosion may have been orchestrated by members of the notorious Lakurawa terrorist group, said to have been operating across Tangaza and neighbouring Gudu Local Government Area.

“The Lakurawa terrorists are mostly foreigners and have continued to disturb the peace in several villages across both councils,” one resident claimed.

The incident has heightened fear in the affected communities, with residents calling on federal and state authorities to urgently address the worsening security situation and restore peace to the region.

As fear grips the affected communities, residents are calling on government at all levels to take urgent and decisive action to eliminate the terrorist threat and restore peace to the region.
