Arsenal are on the verge of securing the services of Chelsea shot-stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his goalkeeping department ahead of the upcoming season.

The 30-year-old Spaniard has reportedly agreed to personal terms with the Gunners, with Arsenal expected to activate the modest £5 million release clause in his Chelsea contract.

According to transfer insider David Ornstein of The Athletic, talks have progressed rapidly and a deal could be finalised in the coming days.

Kepa, who joined Chelsea in 2018 for a world-record fee for a goalkeeper, has endured a mixed spell at Stamford Bridge but remains a talented and experienced option.

“Arsenal to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea. Deal in process of being finalised after 30yo Spanish goalkeeper agreed to join #AFC & fight for place. £5m release clause in #CFC contract will need activating.”

Kepa made 35 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea last season and kept nine clean sheets. His potential arrival would add experienced competition for Arsenal’s current No.1, David Raya.
