NCAA sanctions Kenya Airways over passenger rights violations

The Nigerian government, through the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has imposed sanctions on Kenya Airways following complaints from three passengers, one of whom is a Nigerian traveler identified as Gloria Omisore.
The announcement was made on Friday by Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, in an official statement that detailed the regulatory agency’s response to the alleged violations.
According to Achimugu, a formal sanction letter was issued to the airline on Wednesday, citing multiple breaches of consumer rights.

“The infractions include failure to provide care, lack of transparency in carriage terms, poor communication with the Authority, and mishandling refunds and baggage,” he said.
In line with the NCAA Regulations 2023, Achimugu noted that the airline is required to compensate each of the affected passengers with 1,000 special drawing rights and pay additional fines.
“The airline has seven days to comply. Failure to do so will result in more severe penalties,” Achimugu added.
