In a heartfelt act of community service, Ukpevo Faith, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has embarked on a remarkable initiative to construct a perimeter fence around the Durumi Cemetery in Abuja.

Motivated by the cemetery’s poor condition during a recent cleanup exercise, Faith decided to take action to restore dignity and respect to the final resting place of many. Her ambitious project is estimated to cost over N21 million and has already received backing from local leaders and prospective sponsors.

Driven by a strong sense of purpose, Faith’s vision goes beyond infrastructure. She hopes the project will inspire other youths to give back to their communities and set a new benchmark for meaningful NYSC projects.

While support is growing, more sponsorship is still needed to see the project through to completion. With the right backing, Faith is poised to transform the Durumi Cemetery into a cleaner, safer, and more respectable environment that honors the departed with dignity.

“I was moved to ask questions when I saw the cemetery’s state,” Faith explained. “I realized that funds and manpower were the major factors hindering the perimeter fence from being raised.”

Faith’s project involves constructing a durable fence to secure the 4-hectare cemetery, preventing vandalism and desecration. She has submitted proposals to organizations and individuals, receiving positive responses.

When asked about her motivations, Faith said, “I believe in God’s blessings and for every good work of kindness and show of love and respect, God honors every bit of it.”

Faith, a 24-year-old Accounting graduate from the University of Abuja, sees herself pursuing a career in business and accounting while continuing to contribute to society.

Her role model, her mother, inspires her philanthropic efforts. Faith’s cherished moments come from seeing people smile when she does something good for them.

With the project’s approval from authorities and potential sponsors on board, Faith remains optimistic about completing this life-changing project.
