Egypt to host 2025 U-20 AFCON after Ivory Coast’s withdrawal

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially awarded Egypt the hosting rights for the 2025 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). This decision follows the unexpected withdrawal of Ivory Coast, which had initially been set to host the tournament.
Egypt’s successful bid was backed by both the Egyptian Football Association and the country’s government, demonstrating a strong commitment to organizing a world-class tournament.
CAF confirmed that Egypt had submitted its proposal well in advance, making it the ideal choice to step in after Ivory Coast’s exit.

The tournament is set to kick off on Sunday, April 27, 2025, with the final match scheduled for May 18, 2025. A total of thirteen teams will compete for the prestigious continental title, including Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, who are expected to be strong contenders.
Beyond the quest for the championship, the tournament holds even greater significance as the top four teams will earn qualification for the 2025 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Chile. This provides young African talents with a golden opportunity to showcase their skills on the global stage.
