Israeli strikes kill 25 in Gaza as ceasefire efforts resume

Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip killed at least 25 Palestinians, including several women and children, according to hospital officials on Monday.

The strikes come nearly a week after Israel abruptly ended its ceasefire with Hamas, launching a surprise bombardment that claimed hundreds of lives.

The latest escalation has intensified international pressure for a renewed ceasefire, as humanitarian conditions in Gaza continue to deteriorate. Amid the violence, Egyptian mediators have introduced a new proposal aimed at reviving the stalled truce between Israel and Hamas.

An Egyptian official familiar with the negotiations said Hamas has been offered a deal under which it would release five living hostages in exchange for Israel allowing humanitarian aid into the besieged enclave and agreeing to a weeks-long pause in hostilities. The proposal also includes provisions for Israel to release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.

A Hamas representative confirmed that the group had “responded positively” to the proposal but declined to elaborate on specific terms. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity, as they were not authorized to disclose details of the ongoing talks.

Despite efforts to broker a ceasefire, tensions remain high, with Israel maintaining its military operations in Gaza. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government has insisted that any truce must not allow Hamas to regroup militarily. Meanwhile, pressure is mounting from international organizations calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities to prevent further civilian casualties.

With negotiations continuing behind closed doors, it remains uncertain whether the latest Egyptian-led initiative will be enough to halt the violence and bring both sides back to the table.
