Rivers Assembly suspends legislative sessions indefinitely

The Rivers State House of Assembly has suspended its legislative sessions indefinitely following a resolution made during Friday’s plenary in Port Harcourt, presided over by Speaker Martin Amaewhule.
This decision comes shortly after Governor Siminalayi Fubara formally notified the Speaker of his intention to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill for deliberation and approval.
In a letter dated March 13, Fubara requested to present the budget on March 19, 2025, or any other date suitable for the lawmakers. He explained that his request aligns with the Supreme Court’s ruling and follows the Assembly’s own call for a resubmission of the budget.

The Governor also referenced his previous attempt to present the budget at the Assembly Quarters, where lawmakers denied him entry, adding to the ongoing political tension in the state.
With the indefinite suspension of legislative activities, the fate of the 2025 budget remains uncertain, further fueling the political standoff between the executive and legislative arms in Rivers State.
