Troops clash with bandits in Zamfara, soldiers, suspected terrorists killed

At least five soldiers and several suspected terrorists were killed on Monday during a fierce confrontation along the Lilo–Gulubba Road in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to reports, the troops were on an escort mission, providing security for traders traveling to the Gusau market, when a large group of armed bandits ambushed the convoy.
An eyewitness, Mohammed Isa, explained that the attackers had laid in wait by the roadside before suddenly opening fire on the soldiers and the civilians they were protecting. The situation quickly escalated into an intense gun battle that left casualties on both sides.
“There was pandemonium as passengers fled into the bush for safety, while the soldiers immediately retaliated, engaging the bandits in heavy gunfire,” Isa said.

According to him, the exchange of gunfire left five soldiers dead, while many of the assailants were also killed. Several civilians sustained injuries and were rushed to the General Hospital, Kotorkoshi.
Isa added, “We were going to Gusau town with military escorts when suddenly the bandits came out of hiding and attacked. The soldiers fought back bravely. Many of the bandits were killed, but sadly five soldiers also lost their lives. Some passengers were seriously injured, but many of us managed to escape unhurt. When the bandits realised they were losing the fight, they retreated back to their hideouts.”
When contacted, Army spokesperson Captain David Adewusi said he was not yet aware of the development but promised to provide feedback.
“I am not aware of this, but I will call you back,” he said. As of the time of filing this report, no further update had been given.
