Katsina: Mother, 5 children killed in building collapse during heavy rainfall

Dankama village in Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina State was plunged into mourning on Monday following a heartbreaking incident in which a mother and her five children were killed after their home collapsed during a torrential downpour.
According to a report by Daily Trust, the tragedy occurred around 2:00 a.m. at the residence of Muhammad Sani Garba, where the victims were reportedly asleep when the building suddenly caved in due to the intensity of the rainfall.
Rescue efforts revealed that the mother and all five children died instantly, buried beneath the rubble. Four other occupants of the house sustained varying degrees of injuries and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.
Speaking with newsmen the bereaved father, Muhammad Sani, said he was away from home when the wall fell on his family.
“This happened to about ten people, but sadly six didn’t make it. Right now, four are in the hospital receiving treatment,” he told reporters.
The names of the deceased were given as Mariya Sani, 45, (the mother), Mujahid Sani, 20, Zahariya Sani, 18, Hauwa Sani, 15, Amira Sani, and Nura Sani, 5 years old.

The tragedy has sparked outpouring of grief from friends, relatives, and the wider community, many of whom have been trooping to the Dankama residence to offer condolences.
Despite the devastating loss, Muhammad Sani expressed gratitude to God and prayed for the souls of his wife and children.
“I see this as a will of Allah’s. May He grant them eternal rest,” he said.
Confirming the incident, the Executive Director of the state emergency management agency (SEMA), Hajiya Binta Dangani, said the staff of the agency were at the scene of the tragic event to assess the situation.
