Terrorism: FG closes case against Nnamdi Kanu after final witness testifies

The Federal Government has officially closed its case against Nnamdi Kanu, the embattled leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who is facing charges related to terrorism and treasonable felony.

The prosecution, led by Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), made the declaration on Thursday, June 20, at the Federal High Court in Abuja, after presenting its fifth and final witness in the trial.

The final witness, identified only by the code name “EEE” due to national security concerns, appeared before Justice James Omotosho and gave a confidential testimony. The witness was subsequently cross-examined by Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), lead counsel to Nnamdi Kanu.

Awomolo stated that the prosecution was satisfied with the evidence presented, including various broadcasts attributed to Kanu. He maintained that the volume and nature of the evidence tendered were sufficient to close the government’s case against the IPOB leader.

“I therefore close the case,” the senior lawyer said.

After the announcement, the lead defence counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi, informed the court that they would be opting for a no-case submission, which would be filed in due course.
