Founder and Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners Chapel), Bishop David Oyedepo, has revealed a profound spiritual vow he made to God—to build 1,000 churches before departing this world.

The respected cleric made the revelation during a recent sermon, reflecting on the early days of his ministry. According to Bishop Oyedepo, the commitment was made long before the global rise of Winners Chapel, during a time when he had no financial resources or even a bank account to his name.

“I told God I will build Him 1,000 churches before I go,” he said, emphasizing that the vow was born out of unwavering faith rather than material means. “Back then, I had no bank account, but I had a burning vision and trust in God’s plan for my life.”

Over the decades, Bishop Oyedepo’s ministry has grown from humble beginnings into one of the largest Christian networks in the world, with thousands of branches across Nigeria and beyond, including the massive Faith Tabernacle in Ota, Ogun State — once listed as the world’s largest church building.

“Before I had the first bank account, I said, ‘Jesus, if you ever bless me, I want to be part of building new churches.’

“How many have heard that before? You have always heard everything,” he said.

He emphasised the depth of his commitment by revealing his desire to have a tangible legacy of service on earth.

He added, ,”I told Jesus, I don’t want to come to heaven without a thousand churches built in your name.”

Oyedepo also challenged his congregation to reflect on their dedication and willingness to serve God, citing examples of unused resources.

“Some may even have buses that are doing nothing on Sunday, but they won’t bring them out.

“Because, ah, N2,000 per half litre. If it’s in your heart, go put it in your heart,” he said.

While encouraging his listeners to take spiritual responsibility, he concluded, ”Over to you, you better wake up.

“Can I tell you something? Everybody’s a reflection of where he belongs.

“It’s time you start reflecting what happens in here.”
