Bayelsa State is on the brink of a sporting revolution, as the state’s Commissioner for Sports, Daniel Igali, has announced the construction of Nigeria’s most modern stadium a ₦95 billion facility scheduled for completion within the next 20 months.

The announcement was made during the opening ceremony of the 22nd National Sports Festival in Ogun State. Igali shared that once the state-of-the-art stadium is completed, Bayelsa will officially submit a bid to host the 2028 edition of the prestigious National Sports Festival.

The project is part of the state’s strategic plan to boost its sports infrastructure and elevate Bayelsa’s standing on the national stage. Igali credited the bold vision of the state’s current Governor and former Sports Commissioner, Senator Douye Diri, for driving the ambitious initiative forward.

“This stadium is not just about infrastructure; it’s about placing Bayelsa at the forefront of Nigerian sports,” Igali stated. “We are focused, we are prepared, and we are determined to become a leading force in the country’s sporting landscape.”

The groundbreaking ceremony for the stadium was held in February. When completed, the stadium will feature a 25,000-seating capacity, with the possibility of future expansion.
