Edo: Gov Okpebholo pays April salaries, pensions early ahead of Easter

In a thoughtful gesture ahead of this year’s Easter celebrations, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has approved the early payment of April salaries and pensions to civil servants and retirees across the state.
The move was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, who noted that the disbursement was made several days before the end of the month to support workers and pensioners in preparing for the festivities.
Governor Okpebholo’s decision has been widely praised as a demonstration of his administration’s ongoing commitment to the welfare and financial stability of state employees and retirees.
“This gesture is in line with Okpebholo’s policy of prioritising people-centred governance and ensuring that economic challenges do not hinder citizens from celebrating key religious and cultural festivals,” the statement said.
Itua further noted that the initiative was meant to provide timely support for families during the holiday season.

“Governor Monday Okpebholo is deeply committed to the welfare of Edo workers and pensioners. The decision to pay salaries and pensions early this April is a testament to this commitment, especially as our Christian faithful prepare to mark the Easter season.
“This administration understands the significance of Easter in the lives of our people. We want our workers and senior citizens to celebrate with dignity and without financial worries. This is the least we can do to appreciate their hard work and years of service to our dear state,” he added.
The statement also pointed out that the state’s fiscal discipline and transparent management of public funds have made such timely payments possible, despite economic challenges across the country.
The government reiterated its resolve to keep citizen welfare at the centre of its governance agenda.
