The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a fresh weather alert, warning residents in six states to prepare for heavy rainfall and the potential risk of flash floods from Wednesday, April 9, to Friday, April 11, 2025.

In its latest weekly weather bulletin, NiMet identified Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Edo, Delta, and Ogun as the states most likely to experience moderate to heavy downpours during the three-day forecast period.

Additionally, the agency projected light to moderate rainfall in parts of Lagos, Ondo, Ekiti, Abia, Delta, and Imo states. NiMet also noted that some parts of the country may witness only light showers or remain dry altogether.

The agency warned against flash flooding, particularly in regions expecting heavy rainfall, saying that the rain could be accompanied by strong winds which may pose risks to both lives and property, including buildings, trees, and electrical infrastructure.

It further advised Nigerians to avoid driving through floodwaters, noting that such waters could be deeper or stronger than they appear.

NiMet however highlighted the risk of slippery roads and reduced visibility, which could lead to traffic disruptions, urging the general public to take safety precautions, including turning off electrical appliances ahead of the rain and securing loose outdoor items to prevent damage.

It therefore encouraged residents of affected areas to remain alert and stay updated through official weather channels to reduce the risks associated with severe weather conditions.
