Breaking…Supreme Court sacks Julius Abure as Labour Party chairman

The Supreme Court has overturned the Court of Appeal’s recognition of Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).
In a unanimous ruling on Friday, a five-member panel of the apex court determined that the Court of Appeal lacked the jurisdiction to pronounce Abure as the party’s chairman, particularly after it had earlier ruled that the matter concerned internal party leadership, which is outside the purview of the courts.
The Supreme Court emphasized that issues related to the leadership of a political party are internal matters and therefore not subject to judicial intervention. The court also noted that Abure’s tenure as chairman had already expired, further solidifying its decision.

The ruling allowed the appeal filed by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman and another claimant, declaring their case meritorious, while it dismissed the cross-appeal filed by the Abure faction as unmeritorious.
